What belongs on a portfolio for nurses
Put the licence and certifications first
Licence type, the state or region it is valid in, and current certifications such as BLS or ACLS are the first thing anyone checks. They belong at the top, not buried under a personal statement.
Be specific about setting and specialism
Med-surg, ICU, paediatrics, long-term care and emergency are close to different professions in practice. Name the units you have worked, the patient population, and the acuity you are used to.
Include continuing education
CE credits, in-service training and any preceptor or charge experience show progression that a bare job history does not. This is the section that distinguishes two nurses with the same number of years.
One thing to avoid: Never put patient details on a public page, including anonymised anecdotes with identifying specifics. Describe the clinical skill, not the case.
